Hi Folks
This is a link to my demo web site:
http://gcom2.beta2b.com/
The products are not real, just there to demonstrate the site.
I want to sell this site as an off the shelf e-commerce solution. I will customise the home page for any customer and the 'About Us' & 'Terms & Conditions' pages are ones which the owner can create in MS Word and upload.
There is no link to the admin site available yet, but it will administer the whole site (Add/edit products, navigation menu entries etc.) it will allow you to choose any color scheme, fonts, borders etc, it will compile a file to submit to google products listing any or all products on Google Products (Submission can be automated on the Google web site), you can define your own title and keyword/description metatags, you can put your Google verification/analytics codes in, it will schedule price and/or vat changes, it will run timed promotions as money off or percentage off ,it allows you to set shipping charges by weight*cost and it will notify you of low stock levels and notify customers by e-mail (if they request this) when items come back into stock.
When I designed it I focused mostly on making it easy for users to navigate quickly to the products that they are most interested in and I think that I've created a feature rich easy to use attractive shop.
Pleas feel free to criticise it as openly as you want, I can only improve it if you tell me what is wrong with it.
I am just on the final stages of testing/debugging it so if it goes wrong please be patient and try again. I will be automatically notified if any errors occur.
Thanks in advance
John

Hi,
I have to say it doesn't look too professional when you compare it's look to some of the open source shopping carts, especially if you want to sell it.
The blue and red is way to much and i have a large monitor and the site is just spread right across it.
Personally i can't see that somebody would buy this when there are so many good free open source carts out there. if a company normally buys a site it is because they want something specific and unique.
Hope it helps

Thanks for taking the time on this, I appreciate it. I see your point with the look & feel, it is now a bit dated. There are some successful sites such as Amazon who use the full screen, but most are veering towards partial now. I'm not worried about the colors, anyone who would buy this can choose any color scheme at all using the admin facility that the site will ship with.
There are a lot of open source alternatives available but few of them have so many features such as the attribute filters, product comparison etc. Companies would buy something like this because they don't all have the skills on board to do the extra programming required with open source, don't want to spend a bundle on bespoke and can't do their own support. Also, a lot of companies have sideline interests and want a reasonable quality catalog to shift stock quickly.
I'm in the throws of a re-vamp to modernise the look & feel. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas I'd be really grateful to hear them please.
Cheers
John
