Virtual offices and business rates?

Hi,
I would like to start up a simple web based business at first before plunging into other e-venture ideas which would require a bit more investment in time and money. I would like to start off by writing articles etc and making money from affiliate programs (however small), and using revenue to fund other ventures.
1. I cannot use any part of my home for business purposes (as its rented) and I would prefer to get a separate address for a business as I do not want to disclose my home address to the world, I am thinking of getting a virtual office as I don’t think I will be spending loads of time at a desk once I have set up. As I probably would just make a few updates just from my PC at home possibly once a week, would I still be liable for business rates at any stage?
2. What is the best order to complete all the things to set up my business i.e. do I register with inland revenue as self employed first or do I obtain a virtual office to get an address which can be used to get a business bank account or should I get a domain name first!!??
Thank you for your time.

Hi
I'd say, domain name first! Decide on your business name and secure the domain name. If you set everything else up and then can't get the domain name you want, you'll kick yourself.
Best of luck!
