Hi,
no the only thing you need to do is register as self employed within 3 months from start.
Do you have a mock up for your website? I may be able to offer you some advice as I have a vast array of exp with online retail.

Hi,
Thanks for the details. I have already been registered as self-employed so i think i'll just need to "re-activate". Should i register only when i start trading? I plan to officially launch in September but am obviously already buying and preparing.
I am in the process of creating my website now but do not plan to actually sell online as my research has shown that the garments i am planning to sell do not sell well online - sorry not to give more details at this time, i'm rather protective of my idea...

Hiya
I would reg around 8 weeks after you start getting into the swing of things (i.e Nov / Dec) I wouldn't worry to much about this when you first begin, focus your time into the website, stock and sales.
Yes I understand thew point of sale will be in person however make sure your website is tidy and professional looking. This is vital if your trading from home.
Do you currently have a mock up in photoshop or similar? This doesn't need to include product details as you wan't to keep these away from the public until launch, only purely page layout and structure.

I am working on the design of the website in my spare time as i also have a full-time job so it will take some time. I have a friend who is a webmaster who will be sorting out the actual website once i have all the text and framework done so the website is really not a worry for me.
Quick question: when you say that i have 3 months to register - is that from when i launch my website or from when i actually start to make some money?
Thanks for the advice!
Emma

Hi Emma
You might want to take a look at the website www.meandmyprom.com (owned by clients of mine) who sell prom dresses via appointments at schools. Might give you some ideas?

Hi
The 3 months for sole trader status is from you first completed business transaction.
IR are not fussed about the website, as this could be marketing before hand etc.
