The Franchise Alliance is a group of franchisors who co-sponsor with NatWest a series of free educational seminars about franchising. The seminar format has been running since 2,000 and since their inception has seen nearly 6,000 people attending these weekly events.

As the name suggests this is an alliance of like minded franchise companies, who all run successful franchise systems in the UK. The ethos of the group is to promote ethical franchising and to introduce people to franchising as a way of starting a business.

The general population in the UK may have only have heard of franchising through reference to MacDonald’s or The Body Shop, however in many homes, on every high street and in most office blocks there are franchise businesses operating.

The franchise industry in the UK produces a turnover of over £10.3 billion annually. Franchising is not small business and everyday we may be using a franchise business without knowing it.

The Franchise Alliance holds seminars across the UK, throughout the year. The format of the events is a chance for people looking at starting a business to consider franchising as option, whether in the future plans of their own business or in actively joining a franchise and becoming a franchisee.

Franchising can offer people looking at self-employment a greater chance of success than starting their own businesses, but it is a path that many people are not aware is open to them. This is where the seminars have proved to be a fantastic source of information and initial research.

The seminars cover all aspects of franchising: the concept, its history, the advantages and disadvantages, and the six steps to finding the ideal franchise.

Sessions also outline the levels of financial support that banks can provide to people looking to buy a franchise, in a section entitled ‘Raising Finance’.

The seminar ends with a series of case studies from The Franchise Alliance franchisor members, who outline their franchise systems and business opportunities, as examples of the wide variety of industries and business sectors that franchising covers.

The free seminars give a prospective franchisee a foundation of advice and information across the commercial, financial and legal aspects of franchising.

The Franchise Alliance have a website where more information on the franchisors involved, further outline of the event and online booking for the seminars can be found - www.myfranchise.net
