After months of researching companies, hounding entrepreneurs and heated debate among the Startups editorial team, the Startups 100 list is finally live.

Startups 100 is the definitive countdown to the UK’s most innovative, inspiring and ground-breaking new companies.

There was no rigid criteria applied to companies on the list, however we think it’s a fair reflection of the current start-up community. There’s representation from the green, tech, web and social enterprise sectors and much more in between.

More than 500 businesses came under consideration; 200+ made a rather long shortlist; 150 were comprehensively researched; 125 were interviewed. But only 100 made the cut.

“The list hopefully includes the next Bebo, maybe even Google, but also entrepreneurs looking to innovate in traditional sectors such as retail and manufacturing,” said Matt Thomas, editor of Startups.

“It’s also great to see social enterprises, green businesses and disabled entrepreneurs making the list completely on merit. The economy might be floundering but the UK start-up scene remains buoyant, innovative and fabulously diverse.”
