ebay will cream off your profits but it is a marketplace of buyers so you should consider that.

As you develop though I think an e-commerce website would be the way to go so you are selling your product direct.

Some people actually link their ebay listings to their own sites.

Ebay is a great way to market your products and open your sales to a wider audience but Matt is right much of your product margin is eaten up by ebay and paypal fee's.

Setting up an ecommerce shop is a good idea but you need to plan how you will market the site to reach your customers to ensure you get back the money you will inevitably invest in a website.

Also be careful you can be barred from ebay for adding website links into product listings, check the T&C's before you do this.

Totally agree about abay. The process to apply is quite strict. Don't put any affiliate links on your site before you apply.

I agree about the importance of marketing, try to give away some free stuff in exchange for potential customers details, i.e. build a list. Then build a relationship with the list and people will come back to your shop

The comments after are absolutely correct, you need to be very careful of the Ts and Cs.

You may get away with it but in the long run I wouldn't recommend it as a main way to drive traffic to your site.

I am not so much into ebay stuff or online shops as I was put off by ebay as they declined my application. However, I am knowledgeable about how you can actually make it profitable, and there is no other way apart from marketing and it can be a lot of work which is probably why you are not making much profits.

Am not sure how much you are putting into it. It's not just any form of marketing even, it's the best marketing practice you need. So regardless of what you are going to do, be it have your own online store or whatever kind of website, the bottomline is if you don't get your marketing right, nothing is likely to ever happen for a long time.

Someone mentioned about builing a list, which is one crucial bit of successful marketing, how to do it though, is a different ball game all together. You got to have the desire to sit and learn marketing, and may I dare say this goes for any business in fact.
