I hope this doesn't sound frivolous but I have been thinking about it for a while. Let me start my explanation with a question... when is the best time to buy socks? Is it when you buy new clothes or when you buy new shoes? Or neither? Or both?
In either event, it seems to me that buying socks is the boring part of clothes shopping - a necessity tacked on at the end. Seldom is it enjoyable, engaging or fun. So...
Socks Online... The UK's first website dedicated to socks! (imagine the graphic that could be created for this!). On this simple, fun site you can:
1. Shop at your convenience so you don't end regular clothes shopping on a low.
2. Save money by purchasing in bulk.
3. Enjoy the novelty of gift boxed socks for special occasions.
4. Have fun!
I can't help thinking there is something in this but tell me straight... am I delusional or is there a business here?
I look forward to your replies.
Best wishes,
Mark.

Surely the mark up on socks can't be very good.
And I'll bet all your traffic would be at Christmas, lol

There's a market in everything!
Run with me on this one, just an idea off the top of my head. I live in Manchester, a lot of the "young folk" around here (and I know they do elsewhere) have an odd taste in clothing. White trainers, jogging bottoms (usually dark) hitched up their leg and tucked inside their socks. Get some cool street socks out there so they can look even cooler, I'm thinking arrows pointing down (towards their shiny white trainers they love showing off).
Of course if you was going down this route you'd also have to stock some cool boxers for the ones who wear their pants beneath their bums.
I don't know how much you could get them produced for but I think you could mark them up quite high.
Dave.

This is very interesting. I have never thought about it and I am sure that with good promotion, Socks Online would be a great investment. To help you with your cause, I think it is best to buy new socks as you buy new shoes. Your old socks might have a persistent smell that beyond whatever cleaning method you use it stays the same so a new pair of socks for your new pair of shoes would be best to prevent transferring the smell. This is beyond your foot's scent since you can always apply foot powder or foot deodorant to cure it.
