You may have read a lot recently about social networking sites. The next big thing. I may have missed the boat somewhat but I've been developing a site for a couple of years now in my spare time that was originally aimed at budding talents but this year I've revamped it and aimed it at a more general audience with the main idea being to make it easy to distribute media to friends via SMS and email. I'd be grateful for feedback on the site and any marketing ideas. Currently I'm running google ads. The site is http://www.sceneyou.com
Thanks

Did you see the news today about myspace.com?!
They are now officially No1 US website - attracting more visitors that Yahoo or Google. That's pretty amazing!
This type of site is certainly something to pursue - although I think you still have some revamping to do on your site.
Personally I didn't find it intuitive or welcoming. Most links I clicked on I ended up with pictures of dogs in a big table. I think you need to organise/filter and display this information more intelligently and also make better use of images or icons to make the whole thing more visually appealing.
Simple changes will improve things - for example, having mime types of application/octet-stream and application/x-shockwave-flash, etc. visible at that level takes away from the simplicity of what the interface should be. This could be replaced by a simple icon maybe with a mouse-over effect giving the mime type.
I think you're onto a good thing and have developed a site with great potential - just try and make it a bit more welcoming and I'm sure you'll find the sky's the limit :o)

Good constructive comments. I must confess I struggle a bit with the user interface. My thing is back end databases and other techie stuff. I tried to get to grips with photoshop but had pretty much given up though I think I'll give it another bash now and try to come up with some icons.
Thanks very much

I know exactly where you're coming from as I'm also from the techie side of the tracks. That's why I decided to develop my site myself, (in my spare time, like you), rather than paying someone to do it. You'll get there eventually, it just takes a bit of perseverence :o)
Remember, there are lots of 'icon packages' that you can download to give your websites and applications a professional look. Many are free but even the ones you pay for only cost a few pounds.
Don't give up on Photoshop just yet! Initially I hated using it as I felt out of my depth but now that I've seen, (probably just a small amount), of what it can do, I think it's a godsend! It can take a bit of getting used to but I always find that Google comes to my rescue when I get really stuck :o)
Good luck!
