We are looking to set up a website for a new pet shop, we have no experience in web design, does anyone know of any good website packages we could use to build a good quality website?

hi jo and laura,
if you are looking to advertise online then having a website that looks smart and is google optomised is the crutial point.
yes you can design websites by yourself, however, more often than not, they look very basic and dont have the key ingrediants to rank you highly in search engines like google.
are you looking to just advertise or do u want to sell online as well?
Webfactore LTD offer a range of packages to suit and sizes and budgets of companies. If you would like to have a look at our site, we have a portfolio page which will give some examples of some of the great sites we have designed and developed. A site you may be interested in is PoshPetsnPonies (designed by us), this type of site is an ecommerce which allows customers to order and buy online.
if you have any questions or would like to discuss things further, please dont hesitate to give us an email or a call and we'll be happy to help.
kind regards

Hi Jo and Laura
SiteBuilder could be an alternative solution I would suggest you sign up for a Free 30 day trial on DIY to see exactly what the system is capable of. It's perfect for e commerce because Sagepay, RBS and Paypal are already integrated. The features include Sales Ledger, Stock control, Invoicing and a powerful content management system which makes it easy for you to update your products, content and images. If you have the time try it then your not investing a great deal of cash upfront - only your time. Examples of what can be achieved are on the website.
Full technical support is available throughout the trial so if you require any pointers, advice or help there is always someone available be phone or email. You can also use the forum to speak to other Site Builders.
Good luck with your business venture and please do let us know what your final website looks like.

Hello
Thankfully you don't need a huge budget to creat an online store these days.
I would recommened that you grab yourself a UK based web host [crucial if you're targeting UK customers], a service like tsohost.co.uk or eukhost.com would do.
I use tsohostand can vouch for them, next you simply have to install an open source shopping cart, there are tonnes of great carts out there for free like opencart, oscommerce, zen carts etc,
They come designed and ready to go, you can pick a style from the varied number of themes, and all you need to do is populate the site with your details and change the default logo and site description to your own.
If you are completely clueless with this, you can get someone whose web savvy to do this for you for free, and the job will be done in less than 2 hours. Although populating the cart will take a while.
