Hi,
I currently work for a cleaning contractors company which is in Leeds as a cleaning supervisor and my wage is £8.50 per hour. The actual contract is based in Southampton, I basically run the whole show, employing new employees, covering for absentees, filling in the wage sheets, ordering equipment and materials etc..
The reason I've come to this forum is to seek advice to start-up my own cleaning company, I believe as I am already running the contract at the moment with a team of 8 cleaners but actually earning someone else a wage who is sat inside an office and not helping at all, and only phones every few months to see if everything is running smoothly...
I run a very good professional team and I have a several reliable cleaners who want to come with me and try and get our own cleaning contract. We're not after loads of contracts, ideally starting with small/medium size contracts, we're only aiming for enough to secure ourselves for a annual wage and not to secure more than that.
The information we are seeking is how to actually set-up our own company to start applying to potential clients i.e. registering a company name, writing up contracts, legal documents needed, what kind of insurance needed?
Any help would be most appreciated.
Pete.
P.S. If there are any companies who need quality reliable cleaners and you have a contract available please email me at peter20@ntlworld.com

Whilst you start off thinking quite modestly contract cleaning is highly competitive and insurance is high. You will also have Health and Safety and employment law issues to consider. Terms of business and the legalities can be dealt with at a low cost through Lime One as we deal with a number of cleaning companies and have some standard terms for use. You may also have to consider some environmental legal issues in disposing of waste.
The main areas to consider are the insurance first and if you are working for offices then most will expect you to hold public, employers and indemnity insurance for damage and breakages. Employers and Public insurance are required by law. You will also be paying national insurance as an employer and paying holiday pay so factor these costs in as well as your office running costs.
We can assist you with the business planning if needed and also prepare cash flow forecasts to determine the financial requirements of the business in the early days.

Hi Pete.
Congrats on seeing 'the bigger picture' and deciding to explore the possibilities of your own biz.
No-one will deny the hardest time is in start-up phase. Can you keep working your current job whilst starting to get info and contracts etc together? I'm sure you know you can't go poaching clients, but don't give up your job until absolutely neccessary. Your start up costs will be high - van, materials etc. Are you cashed up?
Cheers, Nigel

Hi Pete,
Did you manage to get anything off the ground here?
I'd be interested to have a chat with you or you could get down to the society I help to run in Leeds for entrepreneurs called Leeds Inventure.
Hope to see you there.
Pete
