Hi all
I run online Fair Trade business selling soft furnishings and looking at moving up a notch by selling at seasonal markets and speciality events (e.g. fair trade, eco friendly events etc).
For this a basic requirement is public liability insurance and I am looking at the best tips and guidance on how to go about getting this, the right questions to ask to ensure complete coverage and so on.
I also note that organisations like NMTF - http://www.nmtf.co.uk/join.htm offer their members inclusive public and product liability. Are there any drawbacks to these?
Also is it cheaper to get product and public liability insurance at the same time and from same provider?
Personal experience and recommendations to insurance brokers/providers will be appreciated too.

It is very cheap to get liability cover these days for fairly safe businesses liike yours. I hope the soft furnishings business works our for you.
I work for a company that provides Liability Insurance and we are just starting to do shop insurance.
To be fair you will find loads of providers on Google - You probably don't need a massive policy.
Let me know if you have any questions - I will try and answer them.

Hi all,
public liabilty insurance is very important and would cover you against any damage in case something goes wrong with a member of public.
You can check their public liability insurance quotes here: http://www.constructaquote.com/liability-insurance/public.aspx
Thanks

Thanks for the recommendations. Any tips on how much I should expect to pay? I know the sectors are different but a general figure would be helpful before I start talking ot them.
I will contact them and update accordingly.
thanks again

Hi
I am a business / commercial insurance broker and would be quite happy to answer any of your questions and obtain quotes for you if you wish.
With regards to your other question, It is better to get your public and product liability at the same time and most insurers offer package polices which would cover both among other risks.
Please feel free to call or email me if you require any other advice, you could also visit our companies website (see below).

It sounds like you have a shop and are selling off site - This is an important factor in sorting your insurance, it also matters a lot if you own the premises.
You can get a discount for combining product and public liability and you can get even more discounts if you combine stock, contents and buildings (if ness)
You may need goods in transit if you are off site a lot but this can be covered in a retail liability and goods policy (sorry if this is confusing!)
I work for an online comparison site for a site that specialises in public liability insurance and shop insurance its called constructaquote.com - Let me know if you have any more questions - Try us for a quote but shop around is my advice.
Good luck with the fair trade business - hope it really works out for you.

Tell you what just killed a possible sale for you Marty...
On the http://www.constructaquote.com/quote.aspx you have a drop down for the primary risk industry...
Not only is the list VERY restricted (Nothing even CLOSE to video production; not even photographers or audio visual engineers, and there a DOZENS more trades I could list that you don't) but there's no 'other' option......
Wonder how many others have came, saw and walked away???

Matt
Did you sort it in the finish? If so with whom? I am setting up a finance and insurance portal and I have a fledgling page for liability insurance - Follow the link and you can see it. Liability Insurance
Your feedback on who offered you the best service and who had the best site could help me decide who to partner with.
Thanks
Tim
