Can you shorten your registered business name to create a brand that is easier on the tongue?

For example Registered business is "Kick Start Business" but would like product, logo etc to be just "Kick Start".

Here is where the two problems are:

Their are other registered companies with "Kick Start" in their companies name. For example "Kick Start Products"

Also their is a company that is registered as "Kick Start". But they are no longer in business but contue to apply for dissolvement, but something is preventing it from happening. Also no contact number can be found for this business.

How would you go about this and what are the legaly issues?
