New franchise opportunities in the office supplies sector have become available for 2007, with the announcement by Smart Cartridge of plans to expand its presence in Europe.

The Edinburgh-based group was set up in 2001 and specialises in ink cartridge refills and laser cartridge remanufacture.

The group currently has 60 franchised-owned stores worldwide, in countries including Ireland, Portugal, Spain and the Dominican Republic. Total annual revenues from the stores amount to over £6m and the group says the figure is set to treble in 2007.

“Strong branding, proven profitable business model and a multiple range of products and services have been key to our success in the UK and overseas,” said Suzie McCafferty, international development director.

“We have just opened our second franchise operation in the Dominican Republic and we have enquiries from all over the world on a daily basis.”

Smart Cartridge franchisees will be given head office support for operational training, sales and marketing functions. The company said their kiosks and portable filling stations can be quickly set up in shopping centres and other retail environments

As well cartridge refills the franchise group also deals with PC and laptop repairs, stationery and photographic supplies.
