I am starting on my own as a sole trader practicing architecture.
I have chosen to start as a sole trader for a number of reasons,
and will review the structure annually.
I'm currently developing my letterhead and as I am not trading
under my name, I need to say at the bottom who I am trading
as the business name, namely:
scott theobold trading as bold architecture design.
what I am currently unsure about is whether to call myself
a 'principle' or 'director' or not at all.
I will potentially be employing 1 person for admin etc. and may
in addition engage others also.
not sure what the rules are, or any guiding principles?
thanks

Hi Bold
I am starting up an e-commerce business this year and I have been getting an awful lot of help in the last year from my local Buiness Link and Enterprise Agency. They have some excellent guides on legal structures and they can send them to you. Look at their websites, you can download lots of helpful info. that way too. I am sure they cover all aspects of being a sole trader. Good luck !

I would suggest it would be rather misleading to call yourself a "director" as this is a legal term to denote a director of a limited company although it is sometimes used in the general sense. I would go for a functional term myself, ie I call myself James Smith, Chartered Accountant even though I do run a limited company and could legitimately call myself "Director, Manging Director etc etc" Perhaps you can do the same to show your professional qualifications.
