I have a freind that is planning to launch a very specific price comparison site.
A lot of the design people he has spoken too were unsure if this was allowed without the sites in question giving there permission . For the sake of openness I hope this is not the case as this almost renders these sites pointless.
Does anybody have a definiate answer?

Hi Gary
How does your friend intend to make money from the site? Most price comparison sites use products from sites that are running an Affiliate Programme - i.e. if somebody clicks through from your friend's site to an online retailer and then makes a purchase that retailer will pay your friend a commission.
If this is the case then the online retailer will (normally) be happy for another site to refer traffic to their site.

I think Affiliate is the initail plan, I thought the same as you that anybody with an e-commerce site will be grateful for the additonal traffic.

Hi Gary,
I have worked for an affiliate network for 2 years and i am currently developing my own price comparison site. Don't worry about design issues or the merchants. The most of the retailers will approve any descent site - exceptions apply - but you will have plenty of merchants to work with.
