Plant / Nursery Business

Hello,
I have an idea of establishing a plant / nursery business specialising in topiary and other instant, high impact plants and shrubs. These are grown on the continent and I'd obvioulsy have to import these. I think there is a market for this and am trying to do some homework/research on this but I don't really know where to start.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or offer ant pearls of wisdom?
Many Thanks

If you have a good look through the main sections of this site there are some good article/links etc.
Also try the businesslink.gov.uk website, although it overlaps quite a lot it has some good information on it.
I think the place to start is to look at the customer, do they want these plants? How much are they going to pay for them? How am I going to deliver the products in the market place? (ie market stall, nursery, mail order, internet ?) How am I actually going to attract customers?
And then I would look at the suppliers. Can I get supplied (what are the critical volumes)? How much will it cost? What import issues are there? Can I buy wholesale in the UK to avoid importing?
And then finally - how much funding will I need? Can I actually raise this funding? Do I have the skills to run this business?
I personally would try to first of all answer the questions quite simply on one side of A4 to see if your business model stack up, and then look at each area in increasing detail to flesh out your plan.
If you have any specific questions then im sure some people will be able to help you out.
