Hi there,
It’s a good idea. But I think you will have trouble getting the stuff out of china and have trouble getting the stuff in to the UK.
Have you considered or contacted customs in China or the UK to find out what the position is?

I was thinking to import it from german supplier at the begining and if it goes well, to start to look for a direct contacts.
would you advise to start on ebay or create my own web site?
thank you

I think trying to start an online business in an already established niche can be very difficult, many sites selling green tea have been online for several years and it's very hard to compete with these sites, you may need to doa lot of website promotion before you even get into the top ten search results for green tea,buy green tea etc...I estimate is could take a good few month and a large budget.
In my view its best to start a website in a relatively new market / new product as then there is little competition.

I had a green tea site that I got in to the top 10 of google for the keyword 'green tea benefits' and it had some traffic/revenue but it does take time and patience. You could always get the product in though and then get affiliates to sell it for you from already established green tea information sites - they get a commission from you. But importing the stock could be a costly business and full of pitfalls.
Maybe do something you can start with a small trial order and see how you go first.

Is there some reaosn that you MUST sell green tea ?
I mean, do you get it incredibly cheap or something ? Or do you just like green tea ?
If you would like to discuss selling something else, I may be able to help.

Hi,
This is an interesting topic, this story happened in thailand
Once i had this customer that made an order of beryllium hearted sapphires from me and the address was that of a tea shop. At first i thought it was joke but he seemed serious, so i thought let me go down there personally and see if it was really a joke.
You see we are a mine and each carat of sapphire cost him about 5 pounds (there are 6 -7 pieces) in each carat. When we arrived there in the morning, we saw a huge line snaking to the highway.
Apprarently, the genius had a promotion, anyone buying loose tea from him got a sapphire(either yellow or green) for free. He was handing out precious stones for free, people seem to want to get the stone more than the tea, but it worked for him.
Wanted to share this story as sometimes, selling tea alone is hard but try coming up with a promotion and it might work.
If you want you can also try his promotion

I think the difficulty is that you are trying to sell a common product that is essentially a commodity as you can buy it almost all health food stores and many grocery stores. You need a wide variety of teas that are unique and difficult to obtain to be successful.

Selling tea online is already a pretty big and competitive niche with fairly low margins on your sales which makes it ever tougher. You might want to look into affiliate programs for tea retailers and try to start a website selling the tea online through another company where you can get a percentage of the sale at least until you have built up enough of a following and experience to know what sells the tea and how much you can expect to sell. The internet continues to become more and more competitive where even small looking tea websites have spent 5-6 years building their brand and tens of thousands on advertising monthly.

You can find number of hits per search topic on the Google 'Keywords Checker' - Google it and login.
There's already a very good site doing this that I'm aware of...Canton Tea Co. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing!
