I have just launced my new horror site, The Horror Site, at: www.thehorrorsite.net
I would welcome all views and comments on my site. I would particularly appreciate advice on how to best monetize the site.
Thanks

Ok, from thew off the site looks very old and very dated in the concept of it's design, you have loads of content which i quite enjoyed looking through, just with all the progress in web design technology your site looks a little outdated.
I would try removing the borders from the tables and give them some style with css and give them some life, all easy enough to do just make it a little more modern looking.

Hi there,
agree with stn003 very dated looking site. I feel that a much better approach to this type of site would be to use a content management system such as WordPress and download a free theme to use.
Also take heed of Google recent announcement on ads above the fold - sites are being penalised due to this technique.

Anyway if you need any help/info on the above give me a shout.

Why are they suddenly penalising sites with ads above the fold? If they don't want them there, where DO they want them?
In regard to the layout of my horrorsite, just exactly what is it that is conveying a dated appearance? And in regard to your recommendation to use Wordpress, in exactly what way would this program make my site look more modern? I have heard much praise for Wordpress, so would be curious to know more about it.
Cheers

Hi again,
if you compare your site to the likes of www.bloody-disgusting.com or even better www.horror.com I think you will see what I mean. These sites still convey what they are about whilst remaining easy on the eye and making all the relevant information available to the user.
The sites are also content managed (you dont need to code and updates to the site) and coded using modern xHTML and CSS based layouts (non tables).
In terms of WordPress its a magnificant blog/CMS platform that is easy to install (1 click on many hosts), use (free themes and plugins are available) and update (using a Microsoft Word like interface).
As an example of a site we are currently designing and building for a client see - http://bears.seowned.co.uk/
