Mobile phone costs seriously impact on the profits of small businesses but many find it difficult to find a price plan that suits them, a survey suggests.

Research from telecoms operator T-Mobile and YouGov shows that 33% of small businesses find mobile phone bills difficult to understand.

However, the study also showed that 75% of the 935 businesses surveyed said that costs were a major concern and that international calls are too expensive.

There was also criticism of the ‘one size fits all’ approach of some phone operators with 60% saying that this made it difficult for them to select a plan that fitted their individual needs.

A further 35% said that the mobile plans offered didn’t fit in at all with their business models.

Simon Ainslie, T-Mobile UK's Director of Business Sales, said: “This research clearly shows a significant proportion of UK small and medium enterprises feel their current mobile price plans do not adequately address their individual business needs.

“UK business is crying out for mobile plans tailored to individual business needs where they can pick their own allocations of voice, data or text.

“We encourage these organisations to regularly review their price plans to ensure that they specifically meet their business needs and that they are consistently utilising the best value package available to them.”
