A friend of mine has asked me for some help with his business idea.
He has a fantastic idea for a magazine he would like to write, however, i havent the slightest clue how you would get into this as most magazines are published by big corporates.
Your ideas would be much appreciated.

instead of focusing on a printed magazine why not build a wordpress blog and start from there and if you can attract visitors with your content then you can eventually branch out by publishing your own magazine.

Dare I ask if this idea came about pre or post apprentice?! Please tell me it's not 'Hip Replacement'...
I couldn't agree more with darubio's advice. Start a blog, test the water. Focus on interesting, attractive content. Limit your costs. Test the content out on friends/family, try e-marketing via the usual free online channels (twitter, facebook, youtube etc...). If you start to build a noticeable audience then you can start to think about whether this is a viable publication.
If so...Why a magazine? Why not an e-mag? Print circulations post double digit % declines every month and paper costs/production costs are rising all the time. The print ad market is very volatile and many publishers are looking online to build revenues..
Publishing is today's multimedia landscape is not to be taken lightly. Limit your risk as much as possible, test out your content, and try and get some help from somebody who know's what the business.
