Local Food Store

Hi All,
I have an idea of starting a local food store, stocking meats, poultry, fruit and veg, bread, fish and diary products. All the products will be sourced locally (lancashire) and sold in a shop.
I'm looking to kick start it off in my home town of Darwen, with a longer term plan to expand into other local towns if it is successful.
Do you guys think it is viable, and if so, what do i need to plan for to start up a shop?
I've never thought about running a shop before, so i could do with knowing what initial outlay is likely (shopfitting etc) are there any funds out there to support such a business (grants etc) and likely overheads needed to run a shop?
Any help and advice would be appreciated.
thanks

Have you attended any of the local business events run by the government? E.g. Business Link. I attended a couple of half day courses last year quite local to me (I'm in Shropshire) and they were very helpful.
On the specifics of your business, could you build a website and sell to people further afield as well as local?
