Two young entrepreneurs from the UK have been commended for their contributions to the world by being awarded international prizes for their achievements.

Emily Cummins, 23, and Sabirul Islam, 20, were both selected to be two of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World for their entrepreneurial accomplishments.

The awards were decided by Junior Chamber International (JCI), a youth organisation that covers more than 100 countries around the world, and will be presented to the winners at a ceremony in Japan in November.

Cummins, from Leeds, was praised for her work in sustainable product design and innovation after she built a multi-bracket water carrier to ease transportation throughout southern Africa. She said: “I have much I want to achieve in my life and being recognised as one of the top ten most outstanding young people in the world will certainly help me to attain my goals.”

Islam, whose achievements include setting up a web design company at the age of 14, and developing an educational brand to inspire young people into business, said he was shocked to receive the award. He said: “It has been an honour to first be nominated by JCI UK and then hear that I’ve actually won the award.”
