Hi,
We have lots of business start up guides that would be of interest you. These range from CIS to Limited company basics.

Hi Brick,
I would get the order book first and worry about the company later. You really do need to see where the work is coming from and I would also put effort into finding low prices on bricks. There must be loads of bankrupt stock and also people giving them away just to get cashflow. The best USP you can offer (after quality of workmanship) is price so anything you can do to keep your own costs really low has to be your priority.
Good luck

Hi Brick,
while you focus on contracts and best brick prices - the last thing you need are expensive overheads such as buying expensive software packages. We should know - we have all started businesses ourselves and know what a headache it can be. However, in order to run your business effeciently, they are necessary. Thats why we started www.icomplete.com which is a 'software as a service' application - and all that means is it's 'hosted' over the internet and you dont have to worry about downloading anything on your computer, or maintaining it or upgrading it etc.
There is a FREE version currently available and we really mean FREE. No contracts, tie-in's or set-up fees. There is a calendar, an interactive contacts database and a task manager. Other versions start as low as £15 per month. There are additonal items such as call answering, virtual PA services and a website booking widget - and there's more to come. Everything a small business needs, in one place at an affordable price. Take a look and let me know what you think.
Good luck with your business!
Chelsea.

Sorry i should have given more information in the first post. The situation we are in is this:
a few years ago an we had an opportunity to be the supplier of labour only bricklayers to a large company. The problem we encountered was that the housing market was more or less at its peak at this time and finding a good bricklayers who were either out of work, or unhappy with the money they were making was virtually impossible. We couldn't get the labour so the opportunity passed.
the housing market is in a bad state at the moment, however when things start to pick up a little, the opportunity we had back then may well present it's self again. This time there are going to be a lot of bricklayers looking for work.
if we can get the basics of the business started and get details of bricklayers looking for work we will be better placed to take advantage when things pick up.
The business is intended to be a three way partnership, does this mean it has to be a limited company?
do the bricklayers we use have to be employees, or can we take them on as sub-contractors?
