I have had enough of my current host, my site is often down and the support is difficult to access. I have decided to move but would value any recommendations.
Now that the decision has been forced upon me I am also considering:
• Reselling hosting to my clients (although this is not my primary concern)
• Moving my site to as dedicated server (only because of the issues I have been experiencing with uptime with my last 2 hosts) perhaps this is overkill and all I need is a reliable company.
The hosting would have to be located in the UK.
Anyone have any ideas?
Justin

Moving your Web site is easier than you think, and it doesn't involve changing your domain name or site downtime if you do it correctly. Moving your Web site means changing its IP address. Since IP addresses are issued in blocks to Web hosting companies, moving to a new company means getting a new address - but that doesn't mean changing your top level domain name. Once you're satisfied that everything is working well at your new home, it's time start transfer your domain to your new IP address. www.fasthosts.co.uk/hosting/, uk.tophosts.com/, www.webfusion.co.uk/ etc may be good options.

I use fasthosts dedicated server.
Ive had no problems so far
their control panel has a lot of features and the support seems fast.
Tbh as its a dedicated server ive killed off all the guff they had installed.
I bought a Centos Linux server. Within 30 minutes it was up and running.
it has 2x Static IP's and unlimited 10mb bandwidth.
Seems fast and very responsive.
I would "currently" recommend them.

Moving your site is never really a problem, moving a domain name can be however, depending on the host.

Rather than use the services of a web hosting company to host your web site you could start your own web hosting company. If your business is successful this could provide secondary income and lower the hosting costs for your own site(s). Shared hosting allows thousands of people to host their own sites at a very reasonable cost. If you have a large and complex website that receives a lot of traffic you may find that shared hosting is limiting your growth and the capacity to serve your customers. It may be time to move on to dedicated hosting.

We've had problems with Heart Internet in the past, they'd often move servers without notice so IP addresses would change. That said, their support has been good and they aren't expensive.
We now have a few servers with ICUK who have been on the whole very good. I'd happily recommend them. Their website is www.icukhosting.co.uk

Beware of these shared servers, they have their limitations......no 301 redirects to name one
I'm with discount domains, after some problems a few years ago they have recently improved. Saying that you need to specifically ask for UK hosting. They also cater for mysql

Hi Justin
I use Dreamhost - They are in the US but there customer support is brilliant.
They are very professional and know their stuff.
I am not sure about all the packages they offer but I pay a monthly fee (I think it is about £10).
I have as much space as I want for that with as many domain names as I want (I have to pay for the domain names of course) I currently have about 5 websites each with their own domain, webspace and emails etc. and the webspace still only costs me £10.00 pm.
