Hi there,
I will appreciate if someone can help me with building awareness and also druming up some business for my start-up. I'm thinking of direct mail however, I have read somewhere that 1 or 2 mails (mailouts) for a direct mail will not do. You need to do 3+ mails. So my question is what would be the the content of the 1st mail, 2nd mail, 3 mail etc, etc. I'm at loss of what/how since am just introducing my services. What would the introductory letter read like? Then what would the second letter read etc. etc.

Hi Yooneeq, our services are handyman services, and office and residential moving services. I would like first, the handyman services the eventually the moving services.

If you intend to target the residential market with your services then letters might not be your best option. You could look at leaflet drops, a referral program, tying in with other related businesses ...
Also, I'd guess that the majority of your business will be local, so, whether residential or commercial you might try a bit of face-to-face contact to help get your name out there.

I work for a direct mail marketing company callted Theydo (my day job). We have a dtabase for direct mail which holds information on over 52 million people. Our clients buy access from us so they can use the database to send direct mail. As you talked about needing to sen dout 3+ direct mail shots this really would be the most cost effective option for you. Within the data industry you will normally pay £80 per thoudsand records which can be mailed to once. our system will give you access for at least half the price and you can use it as much and as often as you like- you could mail out every day if you wanted to!
We also help with print and posteage if you want it. We can do the full colour print, personalisation (adding the consumer details to the mailer) and the posteage from 20p (less than the normal 23p posteage!!!!) so you can save a lot of money.

Have to agree with Mark, residential dont want letters, they need leaflets pushing through doors. Try Phil Rees on here for more information on that one.
But for marketing information, Mark is spot on and can get you on the right path. One of the good guys!

I agree too. You need to go out and meet people. Let them know you are in business. Maybe make door hangers and go out in the neighborhoods you want to service and hand them out while saying hi.
