Hi, I've just started my own gift/greetings card business. I've been reading loads of articles recommending using agents to get my product out and about....but so far am having trouble tracking down agents online. The are quite a few companies that charge to connect you with agents, but as a start-up the prices are a little too hefty. Does anyone have any suggestions?

To get your name out there do everything you can you could start with:
Facebook page, Twitter page, put yourself in directories like yell.com, get a website and write articles about your business on places like squidoo.
the above are all good cheap ways of getting noticed a little more. you could upload designs on sites like flickr so people can see them and if they like them they can go top your website to buy them or to find out your address or contact details and again it would only really take time rather than money.
