Entrepreneurs with big ideas to combat climate change are being urged to enter this year’s Shell Springboard competition.
The awards scheme, now in its fifth year, is offering prize funds of up to £40,000 for the most innovative green business ideas.
To be eligible to enter, the business ideas must be innovative, commercially viable and lead to a reduction in greenhouse gases.
The scheme is offering a total of £320,000 in either £20,000 or £40,000 prizes. Last year nine companies benefited from the prize fund.
One of last year’s winners was Ma (Innovation) 2T4 Ltd, which designed a supercharger air hybrid system for car engines. The system uses the energy created from breaking to boost engines.
James Smith, chairman of Shell UK, said: “Re-engineering the energy system opens new horizons for UK industry.”
Smith urged anyone with a great business idea for tackling climate change to apply for the awards scheme.
The deadline for submissions is November 6th 2009. More details can be found at www.shellspringboard.org
