Hi
Recently google has updated its page ranking system to show the quality of websites.
I have personally gone up to 5/10 from 3/10. Although this is good for people who want to swap links with me my rankings on google have actually gone down.
Anyone else seen this?

Yes, we've gone up a notch although it's made no difference to our rankings...

Yup, noticed the same thing too. I've heard three things about this:
1. Page rank is not half as important as it once was
2. There's rumours of a mysterious Google sandbox ie newish websites go through a kind of probation and it doesn't matter how many inbound links they have or how high their page rank, they'll still not move up the rankings.
3. It's possible whether by accident or design that your SEO is actually falling foul of a new Google ranking rule, dragging you down. Don't ask me what or why though.
Cheers
Alex

I am unsure if you can annoy google with some coding that is not in its guidelines. However our communications site was not to be found for our keywords even though we were optimised found on yahoo and had many inbound links.
When we updated the site and changed the coding removed some additional SEO like mentioning 0870 numbers 15 times a sentance and now were are in the top 20 for most things. No1 in some cases which has boosted sales, if we'll stay there is another question entirely.
Anyone else gone up in the page rank shake up. Google may not appear to find the pagerank important but since my site has gone to 5/10 I am top for nearly all keywords in yahoo and the site hasn't been modified.

Quote from another forum!
Google has a bunch of databases that they rotate as they are updated by the bots. You may have a PR of 0 in one DB and 3 in another. Eventually, as they cycle through the DB's, your PR will be set the same for them all. But until that happens, you can see your PR change like that.
From what I have read and heard the next big update should be due in September, but this is the big G and nobody ever really knows what they are upto.

I know what you mean about the changes from database to database. I have gone up then down and now I am up again nearly twice a day it has changed.

nice site iccommunications.co.uk the only downfall I can see is that I couldn't find an online rdering facility.
Page rank is a pain, the google sandbox is worse though
