Hi Paul AdWords, Espotting and Overture are good for new visitors and sales, but look at other areas as well. The first thing I would recommend is that some work is done on your site - at the moment you're competing with sites like http://www.oohlalaa.com and http://www.figleaves.com and unfortunately your site doesn't quite meet the same expectations as them. A search engine advertising campaign will likely cost quite a bit as it's a competitive area you're in, and if your site isn't attracting sales then that campaign is just a waste of money and I'm sure you don't want that. Some of the aspects of your site are good - the Customer Helpline phone number on each page, for example - but the images are of a poor quality and the design of the homepage could be made far more effective to encourage confidence and sales. I'm sure you could make this a profitable extension of your existing shop and there are a lot of ways you can get more visitors and sales, once you've got the site right. I agree it could do with a bit more finesse and then using pay per click may prove profitable. I do use Google, Espotting, and Overture myself and have found them fairly good. I think improving the 'shop front' is a must because if you are paying for each click you want to maximise your conversion rate, especially as if a click is going to cost you potentially 30p, you need to weigh that up against the likely purchase value of items from each visitor, if you are only achieving for instance a 1% conversion rate - which isnt an abnormal figure. I have shown the site to a number of people, men & women. They say compared to sites such as oohlalaa (which they say looks like its aimed at 16-20 year olds),it is easy to navigate and shows them what they want. Ok I agree maybe the homepage could do with something else, but I didn't want to make it too flash or too age sensitive, also I agree Figleaves is a very good site, but has a lot of words on the pages. Hi Paul, just had a quick look at your website, and I agree with the others, you really need to look at the overall image of the site, and make it more user friendly, and you could use frames, we use this a lot, normally we have 3 a top menu bar with the logo and pics and nag buttons, a main page that you content goes, and a bottom frame normally 20pixels for your address and telephone number and email address, so these are easy for people to find! Dont take offence at what people are saying to you, we are trying to help you get sales, unfortunatly the competition is so great out there, if your site doesnt look proffesional people will move on, really good luck with it, if you need any help please leave a message here , chocpiggy

I'm not taking offence as I enjoy hearing about what people think of the site, maybe I will look at introducing frames, I'll have a play with the design and see what I can come up with. If you have any more advise chocpiggy, I'm willing to listen, as I would like the website to bring in a few sales, to go alongside the retail shop, but I know I'm never going to compare with sites such as Figleaves with range of stock, but I am trying to compete on the price of the goods, bringing the price of lingerie down. Frames are a nightmare for search engines. I'd strongly advise you not to use them. As each frame contains a separate page, search engines tend to list each frame separately. When a user finds your page in the search engine, they'll be sent to one of the framed pages as opposed to being able to view the whole site (all the frames). Adding pages to favourites is impossible too - only the home page can be added. Search engine positions may also suffer. Hi Paul No, please don't use frames! They're totally unecessary and simply make search engine optimisation that much more difficult. The actual structure of your site is fine - it's the final quality that needs a bit of a polish. Get new, good quality images, and redo the homepage so that you have a couple of special offers or featured offers there to attract customers. I would also recommend changing the font from Times to Arial or Verdana which looks much better on the web. The other thing I would strongly recommend is changing your Contact Us button from an email link to a link with your full contact details. This will inspire much more confidence in your potential customers as even though you have your contact details in other places, most people will automatically click on the Contact Us link for your contact information. Paul, in order to do that you have to change the type and positioning of your text on the page. The title is really important as that is usually used as the heading for any search results, so that should be descriptive but also contain your major keywords - keep it to around 5-8 words. A good tip is to have an introductory paragraph describing your products near the top of the homepage, preceded by a header, using header tags, not font tags. I agree, frames are disliked by many, they are esspecially nightmarish if you have a small monitor, as many people do. The mermaid designs have been modified by the web developer (she added the tail to make the characters mermaids for just the homepage only), if you flick through the site further you will see the characters in full (with legs etc), both of them from head to toe which is how I originally designed them. Alternatively you can view them on my website at http://www.trulyace.com/illustrations2.html With regards to the target market of OohLaLaa, I think the owner must be getting something right as despite being a start up business she is doing exceptionally well and has won a number of awards in her industry.
