I am in the process of creating my own website to sell designer clothing, primarily mens, and i am torn between creating my own website or starting up an Ebay Shop ? Does anyone have any thoughts on this. I understand it is much easier to go through ebay but i am wanting to sell 100% authentic designer products, no copies, no imitations and am scared that going through ebay will damage the image of my business.
Also, does anyone know of any wholesalers that would be willing to supply me in both of the above cases ? I am looking at brands such as Von Dutch, Evisu, Fake London Genius, Prada, Hugo Boss, Stone Island, Hope & Glory etc...
If i did create my own website, who do i go about this ... do i need to write a business plan? Do i need finance ? How much will it cost to create my own website ?
Can anyone please, please give me as much guidance / info as possible
Many thanks !!

Hi, and Welcome,
I would suggest you do both, have an ebay shop and get your own site (which is essential in today's online economy).
Many of our clients with sites with us also have an ebay shop and use this to promote their goods, this works very well and anyone that is not utilising the massive traffic ebay enjoys then they need to re-evaluate their marketing efforts.
Hope that helps.
I know nothing about wholesalers and finance, but I am sure other members will help here.

remember ebay will charge you for listings and also take a % of what you earn from them.

Hi there!
I just want to say that if you at some point would consider to sell a less know designer-brand (women's clothing, Danish fashion design) called Trendzetter, I can easily help you get started.
The clothes are of very high quality and in just about every size you can imagine.
Also; here you don't have to buy a lot of stock. You simply buy what you need and think you can sell. And if you don't sell it you can even return it within 60 days and get your money back.
This means that the risk of starting with this brand is at a total minimum!
I can also help you with a website at a very fair price.
Take a look at my onlineshop here in Norway www.nbtrend.no and feel free to contact me at nbtrend@nbtrend.no or call me at +47 51494190 and I'll help you get started :-)
I wish you the best of luck!

I think doing both an ebay shop and you own site is defo the way to go. Ebay has millions or registered users so there is a massive market there for you to tap into. I will say that the clothing industry is a tought nut to crack and everyman and his dog have ebay clothing shops.
Ebay shops are one several teir levels with the cheapest being around the £6 per month mark to set up. Dont forget ebay also charge you to list items so take that into consideration when listing items. Also clothing will sell for a much reduced price on ebay so make sure you do your research and I would advise you try to sell sought after brands so you can command a better finishing price.
At the end of the day if your looking to stock smaller UK based brands we would be happy to offer our services as we are one such brand ourselves. If your interested please feel free to email me to discuss stock option: info@habaneroclothing.co.uk
Good luck

Hi,
I find ebay is good to get rid of old stock etc and quick turn-around. In the long run your own site will get you higher prices, but sales will depend on your search engine rankings, which is a long process (beware of anyone who claims they can guarantee top spot).
For wholesalers try http://wholesale-designer.co.uk
Good luck

have a look at this post in another forum.
Read first post by AIS and then AIS's response to a couple of questions. (AIS is setting up a business which offers your own website tailored to yourself and tailored to selling clothes)
