Hi
We use CISS on all our printers and not found a downside yet apart from i would stay away from the kits that use reset chips as they can annoy you after a while sometimes they stop and you have to then reset them again.

A “C.I.S.S." Or "Ink System" is a system that can continuously feed ink to your printer without you having to continuously change your printer's cartridge or cartridges. The cartridges in your printer either dispenses ink through the print head located on the cartridge or a separate print head located somewhere else. After that, either hot air comes through a small air vent hole at the top of the cartridge, or liquid ink is dispensed from the cartridge depending on what kind of printer you have. Now the difference between a regular printer cartridge and the "Ink System" is rather than the cartridge dispensing air or ink from itself the C.I.S.S. acts as a siphon. It pulls the ink from the bottles that sit beside your printer, usually using gravity, into the cartridge, then on to the print through the printer. If you’re going to get a continuous system make sure you do some research. I've found that a lot of times the C.I.S.S. systems are very prone to leaking which could ruin your printer. Make sure the cartridges that you’re using with the system are in good condition. Don't trust it when companies offer special tubing because it's all basically the same and you don't need weather proofing on something you’re never going to have in weather.
The size of the bottles that contain the ink only matter depending on how often you want to change your ink. It's better to get separate bottles rather than a bunch that are glued or made together. Shut off valves on these systems tend to be a scam and don't really work. You will probably never have to use them anyways. Make sure to buy only the finest quality ink for your CISS or it won't work very well. If you buy your ink over sea's you'll be disappointed because Inks that are produced in small factories and imported into the American online market generally have very high alcohol content. As a cheap biocide, it prevents algae from growing in the ink. The downside to this is that the alcohol also causes the ink on the print head to dry much too fast. As the printer sits between print jobs, the alcohol evaporates from the ink on the print head leaving a crusty residue that builds, causing clogs and in many cases unavoidable print head failures. If you use good quality ink you do not have to worry about this. I hope you can learn and save money printing from this content.
