I am a web designer.
example site: http:www.labeldoctor.co.uk
This site is new, so its not fininshed yet, but theres some basic flash aniamation etc., on there, so you can see something.
Over time, this site will grow. Its brand new, so its not getting searched yet, but it will soon, and then i will spedn some time making it beautiful.
I have other sites, but for obvious reasons, im not gonna put them all on there.hats my latest.
There is NOTHING stopping you from using your knowledge and experience for yourself, unless they find out, obviously. There is nothing wrong, at all, but they would sack you, to protect against conflicts of interests.
my email is: mike@coukwebsite.com
Normally, when people email me, they say "I got you off the forum, whats your idea then?".
PLEASE start your email with an explanation of what this page was, first, because im not gonna remember you, if its a couple of days time.
But im very interested, and would love to talk.

You may well be seen as competing. I would be careful here as it may bite you back hard.
Seek some professional, preferably legal, advice.
This Forum will not provide an answer detailed enough to address your particular circumstance.

Asking a very stupid question, but why not speak to your boss? Doubtless the employment contract has you blocked from doing something like this, but I bet if you went to your boss, discussed your idea and pitched a "business within a business" he'd be willing to listen.
Then there's no underhandedness at all...
Just the way I'd do it - I've always had really nice bosses!

Definitely some legal advice needed here I think.
I don't see how they can prevent you doing what you want in your own time, outside of work, particularly if you are not targetting their market niche. They will start to get concerned if you are on the phone constantly managing your own business during your contracted hours. But legal advice remains my first recommendation.

You could be treading on thin ice here, depending on whether they would really go after you or not. Chances are they would not because it would cost them to do so, but they certainly could give you grief about it. You might want to read up on Employment Law a little. One good list of Employment Law sites is http://www.top100.net/Top-Employment-Law-Sites. I'm sure a Google search would yield tons of others as well. Good luck on whichever direction you choose.
