i would see if you could purchase 10 or 20 of the emails first just to make sure they are good. I would be concerned that the emails they give you are drunk so I wouldn't want to buy a few hundred without knowing they are good.
That said, if they're cheap go for it!

Who ever opt's-in for a spam list ? I don't know of anyone...
We tested a sample from 'opt-in' list providers, contacted some of the emails users to see if they had opted in for a list and they were disgusted that their emails had been given out.
SPAM is not legal, there are EU directives against it, I have never met anyone who likes it, it will generate badwill for your business.
The 'companies' who sell 'opt-in' lists hide behind calls centers and virtual addresses, I would advise against using them.

I tentatively agree with underpressure. I have been tempted to try this in the past but my best guess is that these lists consist mainly of people who have "ticked the wrong box" at some point in the past and so whilst they are technically "opt-in" very few are expecting to get your emails.
We build our own lists of customers who we know are interested in our products and services and market to them. This keeps us in control of who receives our emails and we know they are interested in our products because we know exactly how we acquired their contact details. It is slow but probably the safest way and the quality of the list is probably greater when acquired the "hard way".

If you are going to use a bought or rented list, make sure that they are profiled well! There's no point having a list of 100,000 people who want bread if your selling water.
IF you are going to buy, then make sure you go to a "reputable" source. Thompsons (the people who do the directories) are usually pretty good. They have a call center that makes 60,000 calls a year ensuring data accuracy. Ive had a decent ROI with them.
As muted above, the best way is definately to 'grow your own'.
One idea would be (based on your foreign property market) to get a pdf written called something like "Buying property abroad - The Do's and Donts". Set up a little webpage with a description of the document and ask that people enter their email address. You forward the PDF and you get the email address of someone that is specifically interested in buying property abroad! Your target market :-)
Combine that with some google advertising to drive people to your capture form and your laughing.

Our experience with these kind of lists was that it was mostly hostile email addresses!!! Don't buy, these lists have been spammed and they are tired of it!

I would agree with ZenEdison here... avoid optin marketing lists that you have to buy. Build your own!!!

If I received an email from such a list (unlikely, given how careful I am about small print and boxes when I sign-up for anything) I'd almost certainly block your entire domain through a Gmail filter and never hear from you again.
Despite how I feel that almost everything should be done on-line,(e-)mail marketing is not one of those things.
Postal mail can just be binned and I don't usually mind receiving it. Unsolicited e-mail by comparison, feels like an invasion of my privacy.
Try a physical mailing list and postcards instead. Seriously.

I'm blunt when critiquing websites and ideas on this forum. The public won't sugar-coat their opinion about your offering, so there's no point in me doing so.

I join those who have said NO to buying optin lists. This could spell more trouble to you than they are worth.
Run campaigns to get email addresses of people who visit your site or store, that is way better than any optin list!
