Businesses are being encouraged to go green, as new energy-saving funding is introduced.
A new funding scheme worth £100m has been made available to help companies become more energy efficient.
Most of the funding will be delivered through the Carbon Trust’s existing interest-free loans scheme, which has now been expanded to three times its former size.
Ed Miliband, secretary of state for energy and climate change is calling on businesses to take advantage of the funding. He said: “The additional funding for the Carbon Trust loans scheme means many more companies can take advantage of reducing costs by up to 20%, whilst also helping to reduce carbon emissions. We urge UK businesses to prioritise action on carbon reduction and to contact the Carbon Trust to find out more about the free loans and other support available to help.”
A new map released by the Carbon Trust shows that UK companies stand to save some £2.5bn a year through carbon reduction measures, such as replacing old boilers or installing new lighting.
The Carbon Trust map, which can be found here http://www.carbontrust.co.uk/energy/whysavecarbon/UKCostSavingMap, shows 40 areas of the UK in which businesses have the greatest potential to save money.
The map was released as part of the Carbon Trust’s ‘One Million A Day’ campaign which is urging businesses of all sizes to prioritise actions to kick-start immediate energy savings, reduce carbon emissions and make significant direct cost savings.
