Hi everyone.
I'm looking for books that explain the business side of freelancing - specifically freelance writing. There are many books that discuss the practical issues, such as query letters and publication research, but I haven't been able to find any that describe the business side - tax, legal status and things like that, and from a UK perspective. Has a book like this been written?
I've searched laterally and found a few general business startup books (From Acorns, Start Your Business Week by Week, the Dummies guides etc.), but I wonder if any of them would be useful to the freelancer? I've flicked through a few in a bookshop, but I'm interested in other people's opinions.

Hi Zaccix,
I'm a freelance writer, and to be honest I think you'd be better off with a more general book about business rather than one concentrating on freelance writing. I think most of the books I've seen about writing concentrate more on telling you how to find work than the legalities of it.
Freelance writing, though, is no different from any other type of work you do for yourself. Tax and legal requirements will depend on whether you set up as a sole trader or as a business, but you should be able to find out everything you need to know from any book or website about business. The information here on Startups will apply just as much to freelance writing as to anything else, and the Inland Revenue is also a pretty good source of information.
