Just out of interest. If your not putting advertising on peoples sites, where would you be putting it?

RE: Are you still paying for hosting? FREE HOSTING
Adverts aren't displayed on the customers sites and we would never attempt to do this. Advertisement will take place on our own site and through the use of opt in newsletters etc.
Hope this makes sense, sorry for the confusion.

Of course there's a catch. Companies charge for hosting for a reason.
The second any site gets tens of thousands of unique visitors a day, you'll boot them. You'll have to.
By allocating 2 gigabytes of disc space(which is more than almost anyone needs for hosting in reality) you're hoping to hell that no one uses nearly that much, as do all companies that offer loads more space than users need(including professional web hosting companies)
Also, I realise that it's used by tons of hosting companes, but bandwidth is the wrong word to use. You cannot offer unlimited bandwidth, no company can.
You can claim to offer unlimited data transfer, but those are two different things. But again, if a company munches through anywhere near approaching a gigabyte of data transfer a day, you'd kick them. You couldn't possibly afford to let that happen and risk other companies expecting the same.
Imagine if ten thousand companies sign-up and start using 5 gigabytes of data transfer per day each. Yeah...I can *really* see that 'unlimited' free service lasting.
Unless you can honestly offer me(and a thousand other users) the level of performance that a £200-a-month dedicated server can offer for free, that 'unlimited' needs to be removed or have a big * next to it with a detailed fair usage policy.
And yes, I am being pedantic and taking your wording to extreme, but I have to in order to make you see the legal ramifications of what you're offering.

I'm blunt when critiquing websites and ideas on this forum. The public won't sugar-coat their opinion about your offering, so there's no point in me doing so.

I think you have blown all of this way out of proportion, we are an honest business with a great deal of experience, knowledge and passion, don't tarnish everyone with the same brush. You will only ever find our how good we are by using us. Finally, of couse we can't offer you the same performance a dedicated server can, neither can a Skoda garage to a Ferrari enthusiast.
Thanks for your comments though, we value your comments.

As I said, I was being deliberately pedantic.
If you word something as unlimited without a big fat * next to that word and in small print state that a fair usage policy or something similar applies, people WILL expect unlimited service of the highest calibre. Someone will.

Having re-read this email... and having recently thought about pushing the hosting side of my own business, I can see how and why you could possibly offer FREE hosting. Although, for myself it would only appear to be sensible to do for the first x months/year(s).
If your advertising model supports this venture then I say well done you and Im sure there will be many new businesses searching for low cost options.
Out of interest have you had many people take you up on this? Whilst working as a consultant offering a "free" software product I found that a lot of people are wary of "FREE" and usually dont take it up because they are afraid of what may come! I had more success selling software at a cost than I did giving it away... frightening really :0)
