Tim Campbell, former winner of The Apprentice and Startups Awards judge is to present a special gong for enterprise support.

The founder of the Bright Ideas Trust, which offers young entrepreneurs funding in exchange for an equity stake, will present the award at the 2008 UK Enterprise Support Awards in April.

The awards scheme was set up to recognise achievement among organisations and people that offer support to the UK’s entrepreneurs and small businesses. The awards are run by SFEDI, the standard setting body for small business training and support.

Tony Robinson OBE, small business owner and executive director of SFEDI, said:

“Behind every successful self-employed person and business owner, there are often one or two stars who have provided the know how to help them survive and thrive and we want to recognise their expertise and commitment.”

George Derbyshire, vice chairman of the SFEDI Advisory Board said the contribution advisers make to the success of UK business was vital but still underrated. He described those who supported entrepreneurs as the ‘unsung heroes’ of the business world.

Commenting on his decision to present an award at the ceremony, Tim Campbell said:

“It’s always heartening to see entrepreneurial businesses doing well especially in this difficult economic climate.

“What most people don’t realise is that advisers and background staff make a business stronger and more capable because you trust these people with your deepest secrets and fears.  I don't think that this can happen unless you've got a good rapport with the individual.”
