Hello everyone,
My name's Carl and I've been trading as Vertigo Services since last October. After a few years of helping friends, and friends of friends, with their websites (and sales/marketing plans) I decided to take the plunge and have a crack at doing it "properly".
My business is based on providing basic website solutions to SME's of any size who don't want to spend a fortune on web design but also don't have the time to do it themselves.
I realise that I may be the bane of web designers the world over but am always completely honest with everyone when I tell them that they could do what I would do for them themselves; I simply offer a cost effective alternative to them which helps pay my bills!
Anyway, I'm glad to be here and hope that this is the start of a beautiful relationship.
Carl

There's nothing wrong with telling people how easy it is to build non-dynamic/basic websites. Truth is that if you can use a text editor, you can use Dreamweaver. Whether you can make it look good of course is another thing.
I wouldn't even offer to make anyone a site that doesn't utilise a database connection because there's not enough money in it for me to want to bother.

Khalid.
I'm blunt when critiquing websites and ideas on this forum. The public won't sugar-coat their opinion about your offering, so there's no point in me doing so.

Yes I agree with Khalid but of course building a website in a static is useless unless you dont want to keep records from your visitors. Mostly they are more dynamic and incorporating a database connections, and adding some services like downloads, upload, forum or blog a better.

I take your points guys. However;
My core market is local businesses who want a web presence as an extra "shop window" or outgoing information portal only. They neither want, nor expect to want, to garner further customer data for their own use (and yes, before you mention it, I am aware of the value of such; I have 12 years' experience of business development in a VERY competitive sector before I decided to go it alone).
With these demand parameters in mind, I am supplying a need for a website driven solely by a wish to have a little more than a Yell freebie they don't have the time or even inclination to do themselves. Whatsmore, even after I have recommended that they speak to other companies able to fulfill these requirements, the costs quoted (if quoted at all!!!) are usually prohibitive.
Please be aware; I would not belittle or insult those qualified, experienced and talented web design professionals out there by labelling myself the same. I am simply satisfying a demand with a view to making a living. Nothing more.
