I am now preparing a E-commerce site and is considering which merchant account provider will be suitable for me. I have just started the wholesale business and have made an enquiry from my banker Barclays about the merchant account, the set fee is £ 120, the monthly rental is £20 plus 2.5% commission on each transaction, and the contract period bound to three years. Someone told me paypal is good, does anyone here who can advice me on this problem

Paypal is okay, but it screams cheap to customers in the know, and they have to sign up to use it which add extra hassle to purchasing.
Try WorldPay, or Protx, they offer a step between PayPal and a full-on merchant account.

Have to agree with longplay. Look at Worldpay (who we use), Protx or Secure Trading. You can still use Paypal with a merchant account. (So your clients have the option)

Thank you for your advice. Could you tell me how much cost is going to be to join the worldpay?

Hi Linda,
They have an offer on at the moment where you can get setup for £310 + vat. It's a fairly good deal... WorldPay accept anyone generally - they are normally quite quick (7-10 days) and instead of having to apply for a seperate merchant account and internet facility you get it all in one...
Drop me an email at david@mtsuk.net and I'll happily provide some more advice, we recently submiited an application with them so I've got some good tips.
Regards
David

Hi,
Worldpay have the advantage of accepting 90% of all applicants including new companies with £100 of capital and no trading history.
I banked with a main clearing bank for 20 years and they were not interested when I started up (they are now) whilst worldpay approved my application in 48 hours
You can contact me via our website www.discountdomainsuk.com if you want advice.
Thanks

I noticed that you mentioned paypal, but don't forget nochex and moneybookers....
very similar to paypal, but they guarantee that the funds received remain yours (they won't bounce or charge you back).
also, moneybookers is in a few languages, could be very interesting if you trade with non english speaking countries!
