A group of London students have become the first to complete a new qualification aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills.

The NCFE Level 2 Developing Enterprise Capabilities covers a number of key areas including: understanding and exploring enterprise, planning and carrying out enterprising projects, the evaluation of enterprise projects and self development.

“In the last budget the government pledged a further £180m over the next three years to continue funding for enterprise education throughout the UK,” said Jac Ingram, director of business operations at NCFE.

“It is therefore vital that schools, colleges and training providers consider enterprise qualifications and the long-term benefits they can offer learners.”

All the Year 9 and 10 students that took the course are also currently participating in the Merrill Lynch Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Programme.

The programme involves 500 staff from the financial advisory firm working with the 1,800 students at their schools and at Merrill Lynch’s offices, to help them develop their business knowledge and work-related skills.

Bob Wigley, chairman of Merrill Lynch Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “We are delighted with the progress that the students have made through the [programme] and that they now have the chance to obtain a qualification for their hard work.”
