Green businesses taking part in the Carbon Trust’s incubator scheme are set to receive finance and legal support from new blue-chip sponsors.
The scheme, which aids the commercialisation of promising low-carbon businesses, has just announced a partnership with business advisory firm Grant Thornton and law firm Mills & Reeve.
The two organisations will support start-ups taking part in the incubator scheme by offering fundraising support and help with issues such as patents, licensing, manufacturing agreements and employment contracts. They are also offering up to 17 hours of consultancy with each business.
Rachael Nutter, head of incubators at the Carbon Trust said:
“As a result of these new relationships, we believe that the Carbon Trust can deliver even greater value to the businesses we support, and ensure the best chance of rapid take-up of viable low-carbon technologies which will be vital to accelerate the move towards a low carbon economy.”
The Carbon Trust launched the incubator scheme in 2004 and has helped 69 companies so far as a result of over £70m of private funding. Around 20 new start-ups are admitted to the scheme each year.
Companies taking part receive up to £60,000 worth of support over a 12-18 month period. For more information visit www.carbontrust.co.uk/technology/incubator
