The second season of Startups Live events will begin in Bristol where attendees can hear how Eden Project founder, Tom Smit created one of the UK’s most successful social enterprises.
The Eden Project, which houses more than a million plants in the world’s largest greenhouses, was created to promote the dependent relationship humans have with plants.
On Wednesday, 10 October, delegates can hear first-hand the story of how a disused china clay pit was transformed into one of the UK’s most popular tourist attractions, welcoming more than a million visitors per year.
Local entrepreneur Gayna Heart will also describe how she started Quicksilva. The software firm has clients across the health sector and currently provides the NHS with a data integration system.
Budding entrepreneurs will have the chance to quiz the guest entrepreneurs themselves as well as network with 120 other start-ups and small business owners.
Matt Thomas, editor of Startups.co.uk and host for the evening, said: “We can't wait to get Startups.co.uk back on the road with Startups Live and Bristol is a great place to start.
“We saw during our last visit that the South West, from Bristol right down to Cornwall, is bustling with entrepreneurial activity and more and more people are looking to take the plunge and starting their own businesses.
“Tim Smit is an entrepreneurial legend and hugely entertaining character who really shouldn't be missed, while Gayna has a great story to tell as a female entrepreneur proving it's more than possible to run an ethical software company in the South West.”
