What are the best books for advice on prmoting a business. If you're running a business on your own do you find it difficult to stay focused on a marketing plan and get the selling done effectively because you spend so much time on all the things like purchasing admin and so on?

Have you read self-help books such as 7 Habits of Highly Effective People? Also try books on project management - that's what I used to do and lots of people agree it's a really useful skill to have. To improve your networking and promoting yourself try How to Win Friends and Influence People and How to Become a Celebrity Self Help Book.

Whilst this book is not about promotion, it provided me with some inspiration to free myself up from the 'crap' so that I could spend more time on pushing the businesses. Have a look at the E-myth Revisited by Michael Gerber. Its a little bit Americanised, however it made me realise about passive income and systems.
Hope this helps

I really liked How to be an Entrepreneur by Steve Parks which has a big section on staying focussed on the important stuff like you said above. I can also recommend Getting things done by David Allen which is more into the nitty-gritty side of putting systems in place to become more productive. You can get them both from Amazon. Funny that actually - the books in the paloalto kit above are also Steve Parks. Just spotted that.
Good luck!
