UK hoteliers have reason to celebrate this Christmas with figures reflecting good performance in the sector.

A report, by accountants PKF , shows that rooms yield at the end of November improved by as much as 5 per cent across the UK.

London Hotels in particular reported a 6.1 per cent increase in average room rate to £112.29 during November, pushing rooms yield up by 4.3 per cent to £91.24.

Robert Barnard, partner for hotel consultancy services at PKF, said: “2004 has not been as difficult as some recent years, particularly following the terrorist attacks of 2001, the difficulty in replicating the success caused by the millennium year celebrations, the impact of he Iraq war and crisis such as SARS.

Outside the capital, hoteliers saw an average room rates rise of 3.8 per cent to £66.06 during last month, with occupancy increasing by 1 per cent, leaving room yield up a healthy 4.9 per cent to £48.62.

Barnard said, “We hope that the holiday season brings good tidings for all operators and that 2005 heralds an even stronger year for the industry.
