Any advice would be really appreciated
I'm about to register a company as a Private Limited Company in the UK but have found that in America there is a company with a similar name. It has registered its name as a trade mark in America.
I'm not going to be doing any business in America and just want to get started on my work but I'm not sure if I go with my company name will I face problems further down the line. My company won't be working in the same industry.
My questions are:
Should I care about the American company and trademark?
Do they have any power over here?
Who should I talk to about this?
Many thanks in advance as I'm a bit stuck.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
Its not in that list so I guess I'm good to go.
Which leads me to my next question. Should I register it to prevent the american company from registering it and thus preventing me?
Cheers
Dan

Do you register the company name as a trade mark?
Can you register part of the name as a trade mark which would effectively mean that no one else would be able to register a company with the trade mark as part of their name.
For example: Trademark "MySpecificWording"
Register company name as "MySpecificWording Private Limited" company
this would stop people from
1) registering other trademarks which include "MySpecificWording" e.g "MySpecificWordingExtended"
2) registering other companies that include "MySpecificWording" e.g "MySpecificWording R Us"
Any ideas?
Many thanks in advance
