Hi,
We work from home and need a business number for our (Ltd) company that will be available via directory enquiries.
So far:
A BT business line is too expensive;
A mobile /07xxx number doesn't give the right image;
We're out of cable range;
BT won't list our current domestic second line under anything but our own names;
0845 numbers seem to not get listed in directory enquiries.
I can't believe it's this difficult to get our company into directory enquiries. Has anyone had any better luck?
regards,
Anna

May I ask you why you really need to be available by directory enquiries if your business is based from home?
I run my Ltd company and not being found by directory enquiries has not affected my business in anyway (as far as I know!).

1. We hope to gain business by word of mouth, so a phone number or web address may be lost in the process.
2. I'm about to take this site's advice to write a press release for the local paper about our company. I'm not relying on any subsequent newspaper article being so helpful as to include a phone number. Yes we'll try to place an ad in the same issue, but we would like to be easily found.
regards,
Anna

ringing the right number
Try consulting our guide to telephone numbers. It explains the advantages and disadvantages of using different types of numbers:

Yes I read the startup.co.uk info on telephone numbers. That's why I considered a 0845 number.
But when I try to find some of these 0845 providers via directory enquiries (as an experiment), they cannot be found. If they aren't listed themselves, I can't believe that we will be listed if we buy from them.

Thank you Jamie. We have gone ahead with an 0845 number (my posting was actually about a month ago - it must've been re-dated for the new forum). We've had it for just over 3 weeks. It's not in directory enquiries yet but the supplier told us that it would take about 8 weeks for BT to process it. So here's hoping we're eventually listed!
Thnaks anyhow,
Anna
