More than nine in 10 managers find their working lives stressful, a new survey has revealed.

Research from the online learning provider SkillSoft shows that 95% of managers claim to suffer from work-related stress, and over a quarter have taken time off as a result.

Perhaps more disturbingly, over half of the managers surveyed said they can never imagine a stage in their life when they will be completely stress-free, while 58% said they will probably live most of their lives stressed in one way or another.

A further 70% complained that they wake up in the night because of their stress.

“Stress in the workplace is a major issue for businesses,” said Kevin Young, Managing Director of SkillSoft EMEA.

“Helping people to manage stress can have a positive effect on their effectiveness at work and reduce the number of stress-related absences. Non-managerial staff can benefit too; our research shows that they are almost as stressed as their bosses.”
