Hi All.
I have just started my own web design company, and so far have had 1 client.
I just wanted to ask what you all think are reasonable prices to charge for different sorts of websites?
I have had some people contact me expecting sites for the next of nothing, which leads me to think I am charging too much, and then I have friends who are web designers charging way more than me and telling me I am not charging enough for my services.
As a rough guide my prices start at £300 for a basic website, up to £1,600 for an e-commerce site.
I look forward to hearing from you all.
Cheers. Tanya

Your friends might be right. You dont want to pigeon hole yourself and its very easy to do when you are just starting up.
What does a basic site mean to you ? How many pages ? What sort of development ? SEO ? Hosting-Domains inc ? Updates ? Technical help ? CMS ? Image retouching and integration ?
You need to think about all of these factors when putting your prices together.
The reason you dont have any clients at the moment might not be price related. It could be to do with your marketing and advertising as well.
What have you done so far ?

Hi Tanya
Good luck with your new business
Its all about negotiation skills (that improves with time) and the way you present your services to the potential customer.
Try to present the potential customer his benefits and not immidiately the price, show him why he should work with you (relative advantage over competitors).
You can find many good advices for business and negotiation in the web as well in my site.
Good luck

A basic site would be a website based on 1 Template, 1 Graphic and 5 Pages, Hosting and Domain included, and customer support. What would you say is a reasonable price for this?
I am working on marketing and advetising at the moment, I have just ordered 5k flyers (thankyou for the recommendation by the way).
Thanks
Tanya

Hiya Tania,
I am in discussions with a couple of Polish web designers at the moment for a new website I want to create.
I would like to spend some time going through what I want to see if we can do business.
I don't expect you to work for nothing, But I want a fair deal
Let me know what info you need to progress
Thanks
Julian
