A week-long initiative championing the efforts of the UK’s 4.5 million small businesses begins on Monday.

Small Business Week 2007 will see representatives from government, business experts, support services and the world of entrepreneurs come together to discuss the triggers and barriers to long-term success for the small business community.

The week begins with a special event at the BT Tower in London, where the results of a ‘state of the nation’ report on the UK’s small businesses will be revealed.

The initiative, organised by BT Business, is in partnership with business organisations such as the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) and the government’s support service Business Link.

David Frost, director general of the BCC, said:  “National Small Business Week 2007 demonstrates to small businesses that they have a committed group of supporters with the resources available to help them prosper.

“Together we are capable of making a real difference to the millions of existing small businesses and we can create further opportunities for entrepreneurs and enterprising people looking to pursue their ambitions.”

Further events taking place throughout the week will focus on a range of issues which impact small businesses and aspiring start-ups, such as flexible working, running a home-based business and addressing the issue of climate change.
