Consumer confidence in London has remained at roughly the same level as last month, according to a recent poll.

GFK’s NOP Consumer Confidence Index has found that the hot weather and mediocre sporting achievements has helped keep the public in a saving mood rather than spending one.

The poll examines the public’s views in four major areas: personal financial situation; general economic situation; climate for major purchases and future saving.

Researchers found that there was a drop of two points in the personal financial situation over the last 12 months.

The general economic situation has improved slightly, rising by one point.

The climate for major purchases is still good with an overall score of plus 11 but the public also think that it is currently a good time to save.

Carol Bernasconi, divisional director at GfK NOP, said: “There is only a modest amount of movement within the index this month.

“Disappointment over the nation’s sporting failures combined with the continuing hot spell may have contributed to the slight lowering of the personal financial situation measure and the saving rather than spending attitude remains prevalent.”
